Real talk D33J has been one of my favorite producers since I first heard Tide Songs. His remixes are often too fuckwittable. His style is so chill, so wavy, so fresh; exactly what I imagine LA\Cali like. I caught him like a month back w Mount Kimbie and Jonwayne at a random show in a midwest basement, shit was real tight. He had this Tangle remix on deck, ugh! shit is too good.
I don’t think the Chief Keef – Citgo edit has been released anywhere other than this mix, so that is exciting. Also Little Cloud is on the end there, that is neat! Yeah, I don’t feel like talking anymore, stream it/download it, do whatcha do.

Woke up to a dm from Scrap followed by an e-mail from Uptown Greg for this video directed by A Shaad Huron. I’ve definitely heard the name Uptown Greg a few times before. He’s Greenova Chap 1 so probably thru Main Attrakz n those folks. Could have been ZachG tho, or A$AP Mob, Shady Blaze, coulda been a number of cats. I haven’t posted on Scrap for a while, but there’s definitely some shit in the archives. I should stay up cause the dude is still getting it. DMV stand up if you on the same shyt.
PS yall remember Birthday? His shit was Smooove
I just got done listening to the whole thang and cot damn! I know I used wavy to describe the last tape Ghost/\/Ghoul dropped but that’s on point for the most part.
Mi Armor, the first track comes in super hard. It’s a great intro track, starts off real smooth then bam! killer bass line drops n it’s on an’ crackin’. Second track, I’m going out on a whim and saying these guys are sampling KoRn’s Freak on a Leash. Haha, highly unlikely, but the way BONES has been rapping lately, there’s no telling what kinda nostalgic reference he’ll pull out the hat next. Memory is probably one of my favorites. It’s got these killer echoing keys, it’s right on the tip of my tounge. It’s maybe some shit Ryan Hemsworth is behind, or like maybe Main Attrakionz went in on. Anyway, yea, solid tape from the Team SE$H producer, hardly a month after the last one. DO WORK!
Sam Ray is now making the proper, calculated moves toward his album 3 Love Songs. LFTF describes the jam as “hypnotic, beautifully pensive, and somewhat haunting.” I’ll easily give it all that. I love loops and I know Sam does, too. We’re both huge Madlib fans. Here we’ve got a REA jam with Sam having his way on 1 loop. It makes for a very relaxing jam.
If I do get the chance to interview him, I’m definitely interested in his recording process here. I know he uses a lot of old school Casio keyboards… like the kind you find in thrift stores… but I’m also guessing he has a few rare ones as well; the kind you won’t find in thrift stores.
3 Love Songs will be released thru Orchid Tapes here rill soon. Be on the lookout.
Tasty drops from the homegurl Diane out the UK, some slowwwd n throwed action. Somewhere in this haze is a new Little Cloud track, among others including a Blood On The Leaves remix. Seems like Lil’ Cloud is really taking some serious heat these days. Every time I turn around she’s got some new hater on deck yelling some of the most awful shit at her. It sucks. She’s so cute and adorable and how could you ever be mad at her? geez.
Pretty sure the new track is toward the end, mostly because those keys sound like something DIane would be behind given older tapeloops. If so, her voice is detuned wayyy the heck back, but it’s dope, it fits the mix perfectly. (Thinking about how much of jackass I will sound if that is not the new track. oh well, kill me.)
Update: the new Little Cloud track is the first one. blehhh ummanidiot.
PS if you have a soundcloud and any type of constructive criticism such as “eat a bag of baby dicks” or like “modulate my balls, bitch” you should probably drop a line on ol’ Backlava Beats‘ punk ass. Haha, no
don’t do that.
Damn Fifty. Where’d ya find this?!
It’s really hard to pick a favorite track from Fifty Grand, but this has got to be one of my favorite samples. I feel like you have to go through like a series of music appreciation classes and sit through the longest playlist of awful music before you get to the track that this sample came from. For instance I did a quick search through like older century jams and they all majorly sucked. Maybe I’m wrong thinking it’s an older cut? Enlighten us, Fifty..
As per usual Fifty delivers a really toight (like a tiger) track. Pretty sure it was just made overnight on some “I’m feeling real weird, I’m going to get this out through the music,” kind of thing. It’s been said before, music is a kind of meditative thing for the LA producer, like a coping mechanism. Sometimes it’s the only way of expressing the feeling. It turned out incredibly well imo. The mix is really good, kick is super fucking hard, complimented with the reverby clap/snap (steadily becoming a part of 50′s signiture instruments /drum rack) n you know Fitty stay with those patterned hats. Love.
Pretty sure this was released Halloween night; if so, it totally makes sense. The Moon always be having those weird sounds on deck, you don’t know exactly what to expect but you know it’s not going to be any type of run of the mill production. This mix is no different, I suspect other than a few vocal samples here n there it’s all original material. I’d probably bet on it. yeah.
The first half was likely produced in a different dimension, shit is out there wayyy far. That’s probably why he’s saying it’s something different than what he normally does. I’m really loving the higher notes on the keys in the second half. There’s a lot going on in the mix but JV manages the sounds well. The keys disappear n reappear again around the 7:30 mark it’s real sick.
I’m sensing a few more bpm’s than normal at times. It’s a little something for the ghosts to twerk to, you feel me?
You can now stream Mondre’s debut solo record They Say I Struggle Rap on Spotify. Noisey had the post with an interview. I’m really looking forward to playing this one through. We havne’t exactly been staying up on our Main Attrakionz posts lately so I’ma take this time to catch you up on that as well.
We’ve also got a solo project from that dude Squadda Bambino, I Smoke Because I Don’t Care About Death 2. It’s entirely produced by the man himself. Expect real airy, bass-heavy beats n that classic Squadda flow.
I’m going to say that I have definitely enjoyed both of their solo efforts, but I can’t pick one that I really like better. The style of one complements the other so well that I really just like them together best. Bossalinis & Fooliones was a hell of a record, I just can’t wait for the next one. /// 808s n Dark Grapes II.

Yesterday was Shady Blaze‘s birthday and damn, he must have had a hell of day. He droped an album AND smoked his first blunt in a year n’ fifteen minutes. How glorious that blunt must have been. Catch Shady going straight the fuck in on this one. Production by BK Beats, BLVCKHXVRT, DJ Burn One, and on the intro, even Shady himself. Burn one for the Greenova crew; Mondre just released a stream for his They Say I Struggle Rap, too.
Greenova 2 tha top!
Normally I would feel bad about stealing Potholes thunder. They’re one of my favorite blogs by far. Andrew and Jake Martin b killing this blog shit. They’re one of the few blogs that haven’t been absorbed by Complex. I guess even Prefix mag is run by Complex now? That sort’ve blows my mind. Anyway, Shey hit me up last week when it dropped and told me to post it up; enough time has passed by now.
This is a pretty killer mix. It starts off real hard with that TNGHT jam and doesn’t let up. Those horns will get anyone going. Next up is my main man Ryan Hemsworth, which I mean, damn..you already know. I gotta say though, my favorite part in this whole mix is when Spitta comes on. It’s a track I haven’t heard, which is a rarity cause I’ve been on Curren$y for a second. Haha, back when this blog started we pretty much vowed to cover everything Wiz and Curren$y did. I’m still very much behind the hot spitta though, I can’t say as much for Wiz.
There’s quite a few BK Beats originals in here. The tracks with Danny Brown are some of the other peaks of the mix. There’s a lot of variety though, for instance the Rihanna remix is a pretty chill cut considering the beats per minute. Rooster In My Rari, a turn up jam always, even more so with TNGHT providing the backdrop. I really like the way Shey decided to go out, too. He’s got two originals, one with Main Attrakz the other with Black Noi$e and Deniro ugh! and then Cashmere Cat sets the flight down smoothly, with a very a clean landing.
TNGHT – R U Ready
Ryan Hemsworth – Ryan Must Be Destroyed
Rihanna – Birthday Cake (REIGHNBEAU REMIX)
Curren$y – Rapper Weed (Black Noi$e & BK Beats Remix) ☠
Crystal Castles – Affection (hugsnotdrugs edit)
Waka Flocka Flame – Rooster In My Rari (TNGHT Remix)
Rustie – After Light
Danny Brown – Dip
