For those of you who’ve been waiting on this one you probably already know that it’s been pushed back a few days. That may have been done so the track could go up with this Allied Force Press mixtape compilation Earwax Ziptape III. So there’s that; I just caught wind of it — you’ll have to let me know how that goes. Mainly speaking on gold sweats favorite, fifty racks.
Fifty tells me that Mt. Moon is probably just a loosie like Lex Talionis, Leaving The Body. Flying Away. and I’m not sure about Oh Well, that one may very well be an album cut. Still, who knows what to expect on a loosie drop from Gritty Fitty now-a-dayz. Lately it’s been about fine tuning and really bringing that extra definition to the table. Fitty mentioned “tracks like ‘Oh Well’ are painfully honest.” And yea, you can really feel deeep down on that one. What I’m getting at is, don’t be surprised if you see Mt. Moon as a recurring theme in upcoming releases.
I kept a few things in mind when listening to this one. The first being the genre drip hop, to which Fifty says “is not simply a sonic reference,” it also refers to the fact that her music can be kind of : x depressing : x. I was mostly thinking in terms of the water dripping at the beginning, stalactites, echoing caves and eternal darkness, so pretty much the same thing, right? I was also thinking of the theme from the s/t EP which was basically light vs. dark; good vs. evil kind of thing. I was thinking of Mt. Moon as a place, and how the return requires having previously been there. Finally, I was thinking about how although these tracks show the vital signs of hip hop, the classic boom-bat style, at other times she’s really killed the pulse. The composure is most definitely noteworthy. Anyway, I think we can all agree that the final product has Fifty Grand turning out some v rare, v real production.
She’s announced an EP to be released sometime this summer with Skeleton Kids through Aural Sects. && Stay tuned, the Roach Queen is about to graduate, hard to say what could be on deck ; )
