mp3: Jonwayne – Numbers on the Hoard

17 May

jonwayne - numbers

The hood is really loving this one, 10k+ in just one day. Jonwayne showcasing his lyrical mastermind on this Pusha T/ Kanye produced joint. Click through to the soundcloud for the lyrics. Oh yeah, and, I read on Stones Throw that the Cassette series may be a trilogy? #fingerscrossed

PS grab the recently released Daytime Naps.

mp3: Koloto – Antares

17 May

koloto

Maria Sullivan is an artist from Canterbury UK. She’s been featured on a BBC Radio 1 mix, Dummy Mag, etc. Maria goes by Koloto, and while she hasn’t released anything for the last couple months she’ll remain on my radar for the foreseeable future. I’m seeing a lot of comparisons to Gold Panda, which can definitely be heard but this is much grittier. I see Gold Panda as having a much more clean sound, never hitting these glitch licks like Koloto seems to have perfected. Follow her on facebook and twitter in the meantime, and peep her soundcloud. More soon.

stream: Julian Malone – Tokyo

Apparently this dude was signed to Stones Throw, inked up n everything and then pulled out due to — well, I’m not exactly sure why he pulled out. For me, Stones Throw has been the label that can do no wrong, the label anyone of the hip-hop/producer artists I cover would love to be a part of. I’m sure there will be more on the subject but for now just know that he had that opportunity. We’ll just have to take his word for it, that there must be some reason to dodge a deal like that. Be on the lookout for his record Diff.Rnt scheduled to drop sometime in July. In the meantime peep this Tokimonsta flip, the beat is killing it; I absolutely love this production. Dude sounds real good on the mic, too. good lookin up Potholes

video: LE1F – Spa Day

le1f

Premiered by FACT Mag, LE1F is feeling totally rejuvinated about now. Off the top of Fly Zone, this beat hit me hard on that first drop (42s). Peep the Lakutis cameo, looking grimey as fuck even when getting his bathe on. Directed by Jesse Miller-Gordon’s Fact compares the directing to something like Wes Anderson. I dig the aesthetic for sure, it needed to be hott n’ wet.

stream: Friendzone – Always

friendzone-always

Yo the post on the bloglin is hilarious. Dude is talking about the dark hole that is Friendzone’s tumblr and how hard it is for the duo to get laid. With jams like this, who woulda thought?

stream: Gucci Mane – Trap House III (featuring Rick Ross)

New one from Le Fleur, dude is sounding more based than not lately. Ross on the track, I don’t really have to tell you it’s a banger do I? Lookout for Traphouse III, coming soon. Track produced by 808 Mafia, no sucka shit. [mjf] stream @ xxl

mini tape: J.Farraday – Olivia

17 May

jfaraday

Fresh beats from the young thug J.Farraday. Expect fat bass, snappy snare hits, wishy-washy vocal samples n chillwave at it’s finest. This kid is only getting better, who knows where he’ll be a year from now. Wait ’til someone starts spitting on this stuff, it’ll surely be nasty. In the meantime vibe out to this lil’ mini tape release. Oh, and don’t forget about Beat Tape #1.

stream: The Weeknd – Kiss Land

17 May

the-weeknd-kiss-land

Potholes post is basically saying how Abel Tesfaye hasn’t grown up and how this jam is much like the rest of his jams; same with the production. I can’t tell if it’s in on positive or negative note but it seems like that’s what the kids want, is it not? Anyway, I expect this one to get pretty hyphy.

See previous posts from The Weeknd.

mp3: Jonwayne – Daytime Naps

17 May

daytime naps

This is something almost completely uncharacteristic  of Jonwayne, ambient music. Though there is no reason for it to be; I feel like all producers should try their hand at ambient/ drone cuts at least once. It’s such a wide-open genre right now, it has no limits. The mix is 67 minutes and it’s the first time the wayniac has been featured on the Stones Throw Podcast. I haven’t listened yet, although I my nap game has been very heavy lately. If you’re feeling it, drop a line on twitter, he’s been asking for feedback on this one. He has some great quotes about the project at Stones Throw  along with multiple variations of the artwork. tape: Big Baby Gandhi & Yuri Beats – America Eats Its Babies

17 May

bbg america

Some fishy shit was going on this release, some dude emailed us n who knows who telling us to post the tape before it’s release. Some asshole actually did. And now, it seems the internet is a little confused on the BBG’s status. MJF is calling the release posthumous. I was under the impression he was back, given the unreleased tape he threw up last month with the description “Some unreleased freestyles + songs I’ve recorded from before my 2nd mixtape. You can listen here on Bandcamp. All the money from this is going to go to mixing + mastering the debut album.” It could very well be that these tracks were just sort’ve lying around in Greedhead headquarters, but I don’t want to believe that. Big Baby Gandhi is what the game’s been missing, Mr. 718, are you kidding me?! That track is fire.

Although everything I’m reading is telling me BBG is done for good, that he’s working on a degree in pharmaceuticals. Only time will tell on this one, I’m not counting him out just yet.

Don’t forget about anything and everything else he’s released.
