The latest installment of The Kechstrumentals. Shit is huge. Review coming soon. Hosted @ DJBooth.net
I spoke with kech the night after the drop, he’s already talking about his upcoming album. Before Tape II, we got that Slight Progress EP. If you haven’t listened to that, you might want to take a step back and take care of that, stat. I feel like people don’t even know dude raps… c’mon. He’s got a track on there with Gandhi, Kool, n Epic of BBU, Anythang tha thang thang.
With his newest, house joint out, he’s shown his diversity, and that it’s not all about one aspect. Throughout the course of this tape you can hear influences from J Dilla, 9th Wonder, Ryan Leslie, and Timberland; the kid has range. It all depends which mask he’s got on, he says “I’m a hip-hop rapper, and a music producer; music producer that produces everything.” That’s how you get the “In For The Kill Remix,” “Colours,” and then “Stay Up” and “Gone Wild,” that real trap shit, on the same beat tape as the boom-bat “Ready For War.” Don’t be surprised if you see a couple of these cuts show up on the album.
He’s currently working on his newest single “Postcard,” which he plans to do a video for. Word on the interweb streets is that he sent “Ready For War” over to my mans Chuuwee, so that’s exciting. Other than that, working on the album and trying to lock in some of these features. Stay tuned, peep those archives so you can tell your friends you knew kechPhrase before he blew up.
