Jack Kennedy and I used to rage to some Japandroids. Post Nothing was a whirlwind of the dirtiest guitar, crashiest cymbals, and sweatiest vocals of 2009 and it was perfect. Then I barely caught the end of their sx set in 2010, just in time to here ‘Heart Sweats’ from the back of the tent; it was still awesome.
After some of their post PN tracks dropped I thought that they might be forever going towards a different sound, but today, they exploded back into the realm of their original sound when they released ‘The House That Heaven Built,’ a grungy, 5-minute romp that makes me think of kids partying at a party that they know will never end. As usual, Brian King and David Prouse’s vox are impassioned and flawlessly combined, almost forcing you to yell along to the backups. I want to see them on this tour they just announced. Listen to ‘The House That Heaven Built’ below, due out May 15th on a 7″ before the LP Celebration Rock release on June 5th via Polyvinyl.
